Steam Boiler Engineer

Under the Occupational Safety and Health (Plant Requiring Certificate of Fitness) Regulations 2024, Regulation 12(1) requires that every steam boiler be operated under the control of a competent person, either a Steam Boiler Engineer or a Visiting Steam Boiler Engineer, as specified in the Twelfth Schedule. All Steam Boiler Engineers must obtain competency certification from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia before being authorised to manage steam boilers at the workplace. One of the key requirements is the successful completion of a training course conducted by a Department-recognised training provider. To ensure training quality and standards, approval is granted only to training providers that meet the Department’s prescribed criteria.

Steam Boiler Engineer Grade 1 Course

Module Learning Outcomes
  • This training course will help participant to gain a high-level understanding of the Design, Operation, Maintenance and Inspection (DOMI) of Steam Boiler System (SMS) and potential advantages, including improved occupational health and safety performance and governance, reduced risks, and enhanced legal compliance. In addition, it will give participant sufficient knowledge to engage with colleagues or external professionals who are operating, implementing, or auditing health and safety management systems that are aligned to Steam Boiler requirements under OSHA 2022: OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (PLANT REQUIRING CERTIFICATE OF FITNESS) REGULATIONS 2024; P.U (A) 99

  • At the end of the program, participants should be able to Apply, Describe, Ilustrate, Identify, Operate and Maintenance of Steam Boilers as follows;

  • Application of Act, Regulation And Standard
  • Describe the Steam Boiler Design
  • Understanding the Safe Operation of Steam Boiler
  • Define the Boiler Inspection, Maintenance and Repair
  • Define Asset Integrity Management
  • Describe the boiler commissioning, operations, trouble-shooting and maintenance processes
  • Sit for the examination of the Steam Boiler Engineer’s Certificate of Competency Grade 1 with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Malaysia (DOSH).

  • Describe the uses of steam in process plant and power generation sector.
  • Sit for the examination of the Steam Boiler Engineer’s Certificate of Competency Grade 1 & 2 with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Malaysia (DOSH).
